The Paediatric Oncology Track

Sharing knowledge, examining barriers and engaging with varied perspectives and expertise is central to SIOPE’s work. The comprehensive Paediatric track, part of the European Multidisciplinary Cancer Congress, aims to do just that.

In 2011 in Stockholm

SIOPE has led the way in finalising the programme and speakers for the Paediatric Oncology track as part of the largest multidisciplinary cancer congress in Europe. Indeed key opinion-leaders and experts have designed this important paediatric agenda: SIOPE President, Ruth Ladenstein (AT) and SIOPE President-Elect, Gilles Vassal (FR) are the Track Chairs, and the experts are truly pan-European: Christian Carrie (FR), Mark Gaze (UK), Lars J. Hjorth (SE), Riccardo Riccardi (IT), Umberto Ricardi (IT) and Martin Schrappe (DE).

We are delighted to announce that ENCCA – the European Network for Cancer research in Children and Adolescents and PanCare SurfUp will feature in the paediatric track, along with tumour-specific sessions – including brain, medulloblastoma and ewing sarcoma. The paediatric oncology community also have the opportunity to attend any of the other 33 tracks. Indeed for 2011 there are five new tracks including oncotechnology, and of course you have the potential to meet key EU cancer policymakers at the sessions of the Oncopolicy Track. The Patient Advocacy / Ethics Track and the Oncology Nursing Track are all fully integrated into the scientific programme; indeed we are delighted that ICCCPO – the International Confederation of Childhood Cancer Parent Organisations have contributed to the Patient Advocacy / Ethics Track for this congress as a Programme Expert which has been hugely influential! Topics in the Patient Track include Ethical Learnings from Paediatric Cancer Research and Ethical Dilemmas in the Management of Teenage Cancer Patients.

You can view the programme of the congress here.

In 2009 at ECCO 15-ESMO 34

SIOPE was been heavily involved in the scientific programme design and coordination in relation to the Paediatric Oncology Track. The programme included an update from each of the major paediatric trial groups in Europe, teaching lectures including new approaches to clinical trial design for rare tumours and childhood cancer, a special session on advances in fertility preservation for children and adolescents, as well as scientific symposia on how to select a new drug in paediatric oncology, lessons from soft tissue sarcoma in young people, new imaging approaches and advances in Leukaemia.
