Home Childhood cancer survivors: lifelong higher risk of new cancer

Survivors of childhood cancer have lifelong higher risk of new cancer

Dr. Jørgen Olsen of the Danish Cancer Society led a study on 47,697 patients treated for childhood cancer in the Nordic countries, the largest study of its kind, concluding that those who have survived cancer as a child, have three to three and a half times higher risk of developing a second cancer later in life.  Using data from cancer registries in Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland and Iceland, Dr. Olsen conducted a study on patients who survived childhood cancer between 1943 and 2005.
